The results of the Research Quality Assessment for the period 2020–2024

The University of Udine continues to perform strongly in basic research, with researchers’ publications in line with the national average. This is evident from the initial findings of the Research Quality Assessment (VQR) for the 2020–2024 period conducted by the National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR). Furthermore, a number of key indicators demonstrate that significant results have been achieved in relation to the choices made by the University.
One of the highlights is the quality of research carried out by newly recruited and promoted staff, with the University ranking 21st out of 61 nationally and 5th out of 18 among medium-sized universities (Censis 2025). This represents an improvement on the previous assessment and confirms the effectiveness of the recruitment policies adopted.
The quality of PhD students’ publications is also excellent, ranking 12th out of 61 – significantly better than the national average – as is the assessment of knowledge transfer and impact, which ranks 14th out of 61. For the University of Udine, investing in young people also means being an excellent training ground for young researchers, ranking 4th out of 18 among medium-sized universities (Censis 2025).
True to its statutory vocation and mission, the University has once again achieved one of the highest rankings in the country, coming 13th out of 61 for the impact and quality of its knowledge transfer, and 6th out of 18 among medium-sized universities (Censis 2025).
