The goal of the project “High-rise Buildings in Udine 1946–1976” is to tell the history of Udine from the end of World War II to the Friuli earthquake, through the events surrounding the construction of the “high-rise buildings,” the apartment complexes built in the city during that period. The project is coordinated by Anna Frangipane from the Department of Engineering and Architecture at the University of Udine. The initiative is in collaboration with the Gallerie del Progetto at Palazzo Morpurgo and the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape. The project follows a study funded by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, which involved around 120 “out-of-scale” buildings.
Six weekly meetings with professionals and researchers from May 21 to June 24, held at the Sala Florio of Palazzo Florio; city tours; and an exhibition organized along two lines, for both adults and children: May 21 – “From Reconstruction to the Economic Boom Years,” May 27 – “Between Urban Visions and Regulatory Tools,” June 3 – “The Image of the City Between Architecture and Speculation,” June 10 – “Building According to the Rules of the Art,” June 17 – “High-rise Buildings in the Media,” June 24 – “Conservation, Enhancement, and Protection.”
