Rector of the University of Trieste Donata Vianelli visits CNR-IOM laboratories

Collaboration between Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, the National Research Council (CNR) and the University of Trieste was at the core of the institutional visit of Rector Donata Vianelli, who met the scientific community at the Basovizza campus on Friday, March 20, 2026.

The Rector, accompanied among others by Erik Vesselli, Associate at CNR-IOM and Delegate of the Rector for technology transfer and relations with research institutions at the University of Trieste, and by Giuseppe Della Ricca, Director of the Department of Physics, was welcomed at the main entrance by Giorgio Paolucci, Federico Boscherini and Giovanni Comelli, before being escorted to the FERMI exhibition area, where she met a delegation of researchers.

The visit continued with institutional presentations and a tour of the campus research infrastructures, including the FERMI experimental hall and several laboratories.

In particular, the Rector visited the Nanoscale Materials Laboratory and the CNR-IOM laboratories, including the Analytical Microscopy and Spectroscopy laboratory led by Cristina Africh, where ongoing activities and research lines on nanoscale materials were presented.

During the meeting, Federico Boscherini, Director of CNR-IOM, highlighted the strong collaboration between CNR-IOM and the University of Trieste, a strategic element for the development of joint scientific activities and for strengthening the research system.

The visit provided an important opportunity to consolidate existing synergies and foster new perspectives for collaboration.
