May 26-31, 2025: Initiatives on the occasion of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology
In a week of events dedicated to the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology planned in Trieste, ICTP and SISSA are organizing a dialogue between Nobel laureate William Phillips and Professor Vanderlei Bagnato entitled Measuring the Elusive: Quantum Physics Rewrites the Metric System.
In an entertaining one-hour performance involving lasers, pendulums and voltmeters, Nobel laureate William Phillips, connected online, and Professor Vanderlei Bagnato of the University of São Paulo will highlight, through hands-on demonstrations, how quantum physics has changed our standard system of units of measurement.
The free, public event in English will take place on Thursday 29 May at 18:30 hrs at Trieste’s Teatro Miela. Seating is limited and registration is required at this link.
