One of the most extraordinary organs in the human body, the liver works around the clock: it converts food into energy, regulates the metabolism of sugars and fats, removes potentially harmful substances, and even has a remarkable ability to regenerate. But how much do we really know about our liver? Natalia Rosso, a researcher at the Italian Liver Foundation (FIF), will help us find out at the next edition of Intervalli di Scienza, taking place on Sunday, 29 November, at the Immaginario Scientifico science museum in Trieste, with two sessions at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Through clear and engaging explanations, children and adults alike will discover how this essential organ works, what happens when too much fat accumulates in the liver, and why diet, metabolism, and lifestyle play a crucial role in keeping it healthy.
The event will also offer an opportunity to explore the latest developments in scientific research: from the tools currently available to prevent liver diseases and the techniques enabling earlier diagnosis, to innovative strategies being developed to tackle these conditions more effectively.
There will also be a look behind the scenes at the daily work of researchers. How does a scientific question arise? How is a disease studied? And how can laboratory findings be translated into new knowledge and treatments that improve people’s health?
The aim is to turn science into a shared discovery experience that sparks curiosity, encourages questions, and conveys a simple but fundamental message from an early age: understanding our bodies also helps us take better care of them.
