Dr Vittorio Venturi, Group Leader of the Bacteriology Group at ICGEB Trieste and Professor at UM6P (Morocco), has published a Correspondence in Nature Food proposing a strategy to develop the microbial inoculant sector in Africa. The article highlights the need to prioritise mature technologies to strengthen local production capacity, quality systems, and regulatory frameworks, reducing dependence on imports and supporting the development of a more robust microbial bioeconomy. The work also acknowledges the ICGEB B-INOC project, funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) under the Mattei Plan for Africa.
