On Tuesday, 24 March, Area Science Park hosted the Steering Committee of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Scientific and Innovation System (SiS FVG), a technical meeting bringing together representatives of the network’s promoters (the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, MUR and MAECI) and its 21 scientific partners. The meeting focused on reviewing the results achieved in 2025 and defining the work plan for the coming months.
The event included contributions from Alessia Rosolen, Regional Councillor for Labour, Training, Education, Research, University and Family of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia; Caterina Petrillo, President of Area Science Park; Francesco Ciardiello, from the Technical Secretariat of the Directorate-General for Research, responsible for funding programming and technological innovation at the Ministry of University and Research; and Lamberto Moruzzi, Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Director-General, Central Director for Scientific, Space and Sports Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The main developments presented included:
- the ongoing mapping of regional research infrastructures, essential to effectively promote the region’s portfolio of scientific expertise and facilities;
- strengthening of European project development activities, with greater coordinated participation of regional organisations in EU programmes;
- communication activities, recognised as a strategic lever for attracting talent and enhancing the visibility of SiS FVG at both national and international level.
Scientific diplomacy was another key topic of discussion, highlighting the role of SiS FVG as a coordination platform capable of fostering synergies between research, foreign policy and economic development, while enhancing the international vocation of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s scientific institutions.
During the meeting, the expansion of the SiS FVG network was approved, with the admission of a new member, “Immaginario Scientifico”, unanimously endorsed by the partners. With this addition, the SiS FVG network now includes 22 organisations, further strengthening collaboration among institutions, research bodies and innovation stakeholders in the region.
Originally signed in 2016 and renewed in 2021 for a further five-year period by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of University and Research and the Regional Administration, the agreement is now set to be renewed for a new cycle, confirming the results achieved and aiming to further consolidate the governance of the system.
