Objective: 

Creation of a “Scientific network of excellence” in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region among universities, public research bodies and international research bodies to reinforce the capacity for action, attractiveness and competitiveness at a national and international level of the institutions

Activities: 

Support for the development of international agreements, cooperation agreements and projects in the sectors of research and innovation, which involve the institutions belonging to the scientific network of excellence, first of all inside the strategy areas of the European Union for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) and of the European Union Strategy for the Adriatic - Ionian Region (EUSAIR)

Actions: 

In order to strategically enhance the collaboration activities at the international level in the field of research, innovation and technological transfer, and to increase the impact and the visibility of such initiatives, the Regional Authority signed along with the Universities of Trieste and Udine and SISSA - and has been implementing - an Agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Agreement falls within the MIT-Italy Program and has the purpose of strengthening such programme through new initiatives to increase its critical mass, as well as its impact and visibility.

In August 2020, the Agreement between RAFVG and MIT was renewed for three years.

Specifically, following the editions MIT 1, MIT 2, MIT 3 and MIT 4, which saw funding of numerous research projects, the MIT 5 initiative will be launched, entitled “MIT-FVG for the region: education, innovation and sustainability”, as an international cooperation project involving capitalisation workshops, a project impact assessment, innovation and promotion activity, and activity in schools and universities.

Expected result: 

Increase in the internationalisation capabilities of SiS FVG and capitalisation of results achieved with projects under the MIT 1, MIT 2, MIT 3 and MIT 4 editions, and an increase in active international collaboration.

Launch of a capitalisation workshops, a project impact assessment, innovation and promotion activity, and activity in schools and universities

Indicators of realization: 

Realization of the Trieste case study in collaboration with MIT Senseable City Lab and organization of the event “Data-driven Urban Research: il caso studio di Trieste in collaborazione con il MIT Senseable City Lab" held in Trieste on 7th October 2022.

Realization of the Global Teaching Labs program during which the MIT students explained their approach to STEM to regional secondary school students.

One or more seminaries/events focused on past project results capitalization are under definition.  

Partecipation to MIT MISTI 2022 call for the FVG-USA mobility with 4 joint FVG-MIT projects (2 with the University of Udine, 1 with CNR and one with SISSA) for a total amount of more than 94 thousand dollars. Under evaluation.
