Creation of a “Scientific network of excellence” in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region among universities, public research bodies and international research bodies to reinforce the capacity for action, attractiveness and competitiveness at a national and international level of the institutions

The creation and enhancement of integrated research infrastructures, to reinforce the capacity for action of scientific institutions and to optimise the use of the infrastructures themselves, making them available also to private companies, and the creation of shared services for research or the coordination of existing services

The infrastructures to be built are aimed at making some new laboratories fully operational as well as implementing some laboratories that play a strategic role within the experimental areas of SISSA as service providers and support facilities for all the existing research groups.
The planned infrastructures and activities are summarised below.

• New research laboratories.
As part of the plant system upgrades and the acquisition of new instruments for two new experimental laboratories, the plan includes the purchase of specific equipment in order to complete the facilities and make such laboratories fully operational.

• New shared facility for small rodent behaviour experiments.

•  Upgrade of the cell culture facility.
As a result of new technical and experimental requirements, it is necessary to convert one of such rooms to an environment in which biological agents can be handled by increasing safety standards and requirements.

•  Upgrade of the cell molecular biology facility.
The plan includes the purchase of high-tech instruments which are considered strategic for the future projects of the experimental laboratories.

• Development of the research infrastructure connected to the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence project.
Such measure is included in the "2019-2021 three-year programme" relating to funding for the regional university system pursuant to Regional Law 2/2011.
